FAQ
What's a hackathon?
A hackathon is a weekend-long build sprint. You'll form a team, pick an idea, and turn it into a working project in 24 hours, with mentors, workshops, food, and prizes along the way. There's no pressure to change the world. Just build something you're proud of.
Who can attend?
Hack The Nest is open to all college and high school students, whatever your major or experience level. Whether you're writing your first line of code or you've shipped a dozen projects, you belong here.
How much does it cost?
Nothing. Hack The Nest is completely free. Meals, workspace, swag, and everything you need for the weekend are covered for you.
Do I need a team or an idea already?
Nope. Teams can have up to 4 people, but you're welcome to come solo. We'll host a team-matching session at the start so you can meet other hackers. Your idea can wait until you're here too.
What if this is my first hackathon?
Perfect. A lot of our hackers are first-timers. We'll run beginner-friendly workshops and have mentors on the floor all weekend to help you go from idea to demo.
What should I bring?
Your laptop and charger, a photo ID, and anything to stay comfortable overnight (toiletries, a hoodie, maybe a sleeping bag). We'll handle the food and the caffeine.
Is Hack The Nest in person?
Yes. It's a fully in-person event at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, MI. Exact venue details go out to registered hackers closer to the date.
